Bat and Ball league
Kemsing edged home to complete a nine run victory at
Knockholt. Having been put in on a difficult track the visitors managed 183
for 7 in the allotted 40 overs. This was centred around a century from opener
Grahame Wood. It was hard going at the start with the accurate Neil Hardstone
(1 for 13) finding a good deal of early movement to finish his nine overs having
taken the wicket of Peter Shaw bowled around his legs. Some wayward bowling
by his team mates was punished by Wood who smashed 13 fours and two sixes, sharing
a partnership of 69 with Alex Gibbs (25). When Wood was caught on the boundary
for exactly 100 off the bowling of Finn (3 for 49) the rate slowed. Peter Greening
(21 not out) eased Kemsing to a respectable total but short of the 200 they
hoped for.
Knockholt's reply started slowly with Brian Baldwin (2
for 19) reducing the home side to 37 for 2 when Stuart Thresher (46) and Neil
Hardstone (75) came together. Their partnership of 105 saw them easing towards
a comfortable victory until Thresher was bowled by Wood (2 for 31) quickly followed
by Hardstone bowled by Ian Wallace (2 for 35). The Kemsing bowlers held their
nerve to restrict Knockholt to 174 for 6 at the close with T Amos 16 not out.
